< PreviousAnd finally The world of Frazer 50 Business Link www.blmforum.net The work spouse Is your other half having a platonic, yet emotional, relationship with a colleague at work, with whom they share secrets? The answer is probably yes, with a new study coming across Frazer’s desk revealing as many as 72% of working Brits admit there is someone they are particularly close to at the office, who they would describe as their work ‘wife’ or ‘husband’ — and 25% admitting they share more secrets with them, than their other half. Tellingly, the research commissioned by Health Assured, found that if forced to choose, 35% would rather dump their own partner instead of splitting up from their work spouse. However, while a work spouse can be great for morale, a sixth say that their office bestie can be a bad influence on them, leading to one in four being split up like schoolchildren, getting in trouble for gossiping too much, giggling during meetings, playing practical jokes, and sending silly messages. © stock.adobe.com/ Zamrznuti tonovi An AI interview Artificial Intelligence (AI) is seemingly omnipresent. Businesses are using the tech across myriad applications, and even to take over the job interview process — with some applicants being sent into the uncanny valley when being questioned by unsettling avatars. But AI is also being used on the other end of the job interview, with Frazer recently learning from a friend in the recruitment industry that AI cheating in hiring is becoming widespread. A Capterra survey of 250 job seekers in the UK found 53% are using AI tools to help them in their current job search, with 77% of these leveraging it to exaggerate or lie about their skills. Meanwhile 29% have used AI to generate answers to interview questions. While this may be of concern for those hiring, AI gets the job done, with AI users 75% more likely to receive a job offer than those who don’t use AI. Will we eventually get to the point where a job interview is simply AI on both sides, completely devoid of human involvement? Frazer hopes not! © stock.adobe.com/ Song_about_summer © stock.adobe.com/cunaplus A long wait Have you ever applied for a job, only to never hear back from the business? This practice seems all too common today, leaving jobseekers frustrated and unsure of where they are going wrong. For one Lincolnshire woman, though, it turns out she just needed to wait almost 50 years to find out what happened to her application. 70-year-old Tizi recently opened her post to find the letter she sent off in 1976 for her dream job as a motorcycle stunt rider, with a note detailing that it had been trapped behind a post office drawer all this time! Talking to the BBC, she said: “I always wondered why I never heard back about the job. Now I know why…. How they found me when I’ve moved house 50-odd times, and even moved countries four or five times, is a mystery.” Sadly, for today’s job applicants, with the process primarily being online, the “it got lost in the mail” reasoning is unlikely, but you never know, in 50 years’ time one may well receive an email that the application got lost in ‘spam’!
