To mark the occasion Hainsworth’s Managing Director Tom Hainsworth made a presentation on the weaving floor of the Mill where he’s spent his entire working life. Dennis has been there so long, Frazer reckons his first days could have come from another planet, let alone another generation. He says, “ When I started I got up early every day and jumped on the Leeds Tramway. It was four pennies for a workman’s return ticket and took 45 minutes if there wasn’t a slower tram in front of you. My first weekly wage was ten shillings and I felt like a rich man. I gave my mother half of it straight away towards my upkeep and spent a shilling on a pint of bitter.” The heat is on Frazer recalls the many motivational speeches given by their dynamic editor but clearly these pale by comparison to the one received by six fearless trainees from Clarion in Leeds recently. Sarah Harrison, Florence Hiskey, David Grey, Nicola Collins, Jennifer Leithgoe and Sean Linley walked over coals burning at 1237°F, to raise money for St Gemma’s Hospice. Sarah told Frazer, “We didn’t practice before the actual walk, we just received a two hour long motivational session called ‘Learn or Burn’ to help get everyone in the right frame of mind. The aim of the session was to get us to really believe we could do it – we were told to focus on being ‘strong, powerful and magnificent’. We were also encouraged to support all of the other fire walkers and create a real team spirit. Not only did the team succeed in raising over £700 for St Gemma’s Hospice but they were also able to get rid of any verrucas in the process – beats a private health policy, doesn’t it? AND FINALLY… And finally… The world of Frazer Here’s Frazer’s monthly collection of the weird and wonderful stories that came our way over the last few weeks! Bank error in their favour Lincoln professionals blew thousands of pounds in cash recently and still ended up with a healthy sum for charity. It was Banks Long & Co’s annual Monopoly Challenge, now over thirty years old, where a host of businesses from the city took part in the ever-popular never-ending board game and raised over £830 for St Barnabas Hospice. The event took place at The Green Dragon and among the grudge matches in the competition were reigning champion Jerome Wright against his brother Steff and accountant Steve Tointon of Saul Fairholm who put up a fierce fight against his wife Melanie. She also happens to be Lincoln’s Sheriff, but was unable to use her powers to keep him in jail for long enough. In fact Steve managed to win the entire tournament. Sadly, Frazer is unable to report who won second prize in a beauty contest. Hip to be square Hobbling into Frazer’s inbox comes a press release entitled “Lady Gaga raises the profile of hip arthroscopy”. It seems Surgical Innovations Clinical Advisory Board member and Harrogate hip surgeon Jon Conroy was so moved by Lady Gaga’s imminent surgery, that he put pen to paper to help raise the worldwide profile of pioneering minimally invasive hip surgery. It seems the pop sensation has had a hip problem for a while, forcing her to abandon a US tour, and Jon said, “The labrum is a cartilage structure attached to the rim of the hip socket. It creates a seal around the ball of the hip and often tears. It occurs in athletes or dancers who have repetitive injuries to the hip, as in the case of Lady Gaga. Hip arthroscopy offers opportunities to preserve the hip and potentially, in the future, obviate the need for hip replacements.” Frazer is not sure that’s the kind of hip-op the music press usually report on. 54 Business Link www.blmforum.net 54:Layout 1 1/3/13 10:47 Page 155:Layout 1 7/3/13 11:22 Page 1International Rail Loading Specialists Main Street, Horkstow North Lincolnshire, DN18 6BL, England Tel +44 (0) 1652 618 668 Fax +44 (0) 1652 618 668 Email: enquiries@trainload.co.uk www.trainload.co.uk Buffer Wagon Systems Trolley/Mule Systems Shunting Systems Tel +44 (0) 1652 618 668 / Email: enquiries@trainload.co.uk / www.trainload.co.uk At Trainload Limited we are rail loading specialists who design, manufacture, install and commission wagon haulage systems and Shuntersto move wagons or railcars on private sidings for many different industries, including Refineries, Ports, Wash Plants, Coal Terminals, Grain Terminals, Repair Workshops, and many other applications. » Haulage systems for moving Rail Wagons and Rail Cars on private sidings » A personal service to ensure the highest levels of service » Systems Supplied throughout the world for over 50 years.
