East Yorkshire construction firms invited to next week’s meet-the-buyer event

Businesses in the East Riding who are involved in the construction industry are being invited to a free Meet The Buyer event to make new contacts that could lead to new contracts.

Staged by YORhub, the networking event is being held at East Riding Leisure Goole, in North Street, Goole, on Tuesday October 4, from 9.30am to noon.

Representatives from 25 businesses in the construction field will attend, including some big names in the industry, alongside some well-known firms from the local area.

YORhub is responsible for appointing contractors to large and small public sector projects across the region, including the building of new schools, business centres, flood schemes, housing developments and also the refurbishment of existing buildings.

In the East Riding that has recently included the construction of Beverley Enterprise Centre, the South Withernsea Coastal Defence Scheme and the Cottingham and Orchard Park Flood Alleviation Scheme.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is one of the lead authorities of YORhub – a collaboration of five Yorkshire and Humber councils working together to offer construction frameworks which promote the use of quality contractors and consultants for public sector projects in the region.

The four other authorities involved are Leeds City Council, Sheffield City Council, Scarborough Borough Council and Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council.

The Meet The Buyer event offers an opportunity for subcontractors and suppliers to meet the building and civil engineering contractors appointed to the frameworks of YORhub.

Attendees are invited to drop in and meet the exhibitors between 9.30am and noon, where they can also:

  • Find out how to bid for work from YORhub’s framework contractors,
  • Meet key members of the YORhub team,
  • Learn about YORhub’s supply chain engagement programme.

Cllr Claire Holmes, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s portfolio holder for planning, infrastructure and housing, said: “We’re holding this event at East Riding Leisure Goole to highlight the town’s success in securing funding under the Goole Town Deal.

“The planned refurbishment of the leisure centre itself is expected to be procured through YORhub.

“We also hope to provide attendees with other information about the other regeneration projects coming up in Goole and the rest of the East Riding, and the contract opportunities they will offer.”

As well as local authorities, YORhub’s frameworks are used by other public sector organisations including universities, emergency services, the health sector and housing associations, in the Yorkshire and Humber and neighbouring regions.

Entry to the event is free, but attendees need to register in advance. Any construction firms interested in attending can visit www.yorhub.com/events-and-training/meet-the-buyer-2022 for more information and for a link to the registration page.
